Official: French Senate to consider Russian sanctions easing Jun 8
PARIS, May 27 (PRIME) -- France’s Senate, the parliament’s supreme chamber, will consider a draft resolution on easing of the sanctions against Russia on June 8, an author of the draft Yves Pozzo di Borgo said on Friday.
In April, France’s National Assembly, the parliament’s lower chamber, voted for nonsupport of the prolongation of the E.U. anti-Russian sanctions. Votes for the resolution were cast by 55 out of 98 deputies.
The document submitted to the senate became less categorical, it orders only a gradual easing of the sanctions and a restart of meetings between Russian and French high-ranking officials. The cancellation of the sanctions was again tied with the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements on peace in Ukraine.
Di Borgo said that it is impossible to move forward, following the logic of the sanctions. He said that French senators want Russia to lift the food imports embargo.
